What USCIS actually requires

The rule is short. Most rejections come from missing pieces, not bad translations.

  • A full English translation. Every word, every stamp, every handwritten note. Partial or summary translations are rejected.
  • A signed certification. The translator states the translation is complete and accurate and that they are competent in both languages.
  • A copy of the original. We attach the image you uploaded so the officer can compare.
  • No notary needed. USCIS does not require notarization. Services that charge for it are padding the bill.

Certification by translator Sample

Questions people ask

Does this meet USCIS requirements?

Our translations follow 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): a complete English translation, a copy of the original, and a signed statement from a translator who certifies competence in both languages. No notary or agency membership is required by the regulation. USCIS decides each case on its own facts, and no translation service can guarantee the outcome of a filing.

Can I translate it myself or have a relative do it?

The rule allows it, but immigration attorneys advise against it because an officer may question a translation done by an interested party.

Do you keep my documents?

Files are deleted 30 days after delivery unless you ask us to keep them longer. We never sell them, and we share them only with the Natively Fluent translator working on your order. See the Privacy Policy.

What if my document has stamps or handwriting?

Stamps, seals and handwritten notes are translated or described in brackets, as USCIS expects.

Is this good for court, DMV, or a university?

Usually yes. Tell us where you are filing and we match the certification wording. Immigration court uses a slightly different statement.
